How the calculation works
Every unit converts via a single intermediate value in millilitres. The factor for each unit is exact: US gallon = 231 cubic inches by definition (NIST SP 1038), imperial gallon = 4.546 09 L by UK statute, 1 inch = 25.4 mm by the 1959 International Yard and Pound Agreement.

No. A US gallon is 3.785 411 784 L (exactly 231 cubic inches). An imperial gallon is 4.546 09 L. The imperial gallon is about 20% larger, so 1 imp gal ≈ 1.20 US gal.
How many millilitres are in a US cup?
A US customary cup is 8 US fluid ounces = 236.588 235 mL. A US legal cup (used on nutrition labels) is 240 mL exactly. A metric cup (Australia, NZ) is 250 mL.
What is the difference between a US fluid ounce and a UK fluid ounce?
A US fluid ounce is 29.5735 mL (1/128 of a US gallon). An imperial fluid ounce is 28.4131 mL (1/160 of an imperial gallon). They are different by about 4%, so cooking and drinks measurements between US and UK recipes are not interchangeable.
How big is a tablespoon?
A US tablespoon is 14.787 mL (half a US fluid ounce). The UK and many European countries use a 15 mL tablespoon. Australia uniquely uses a 20 mL tablespoon. This converter uses the US definition for "tbsp" — for a 15 mL tablespoon, just enter 15 mL.
How does 1 mL relate to 1 cm³?
