Age in hours is the exact calendar-day count between the two dates multiplied by 24. Because the day count is done on whole dates in UTC, every leap day is included and daylight-saving or timezone offsets cannot change the result. Time of day is not used, so each day contributes exactly 24 hours.

How the calculation works
The calculator first counts the exact number of calendar days between the two dates on the proleptic Gregorian calendar, computed in UTC so daylight-saving and timezone offsets cannot shift the result. Every leap day in the span is included automatically, following the full Gregorian rule (2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not). It then multiplies that day count by 24, because one day is defined as exactly 24 hours (86,400 SI seconds). Minutes and seconds follow the same way: 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds per day. The day-count algorithm matches PHP DateInterval, date-fns, Wolfram Alpha, and calculator.net.
Worked example
Date of birth: 15 June 1990. As of: 14 June 2026. The exact calendar-day count between the two dates is 13,148 days, with every leap day in the span included. Multiplying by 24 gives 315,552 hours lived — the same as 18,933,120 minutes or 1,135,987,200 seconds. That is an exact age of 35 years, 11 months, and 30 days; 15 June 1990 was a Friday; and with the next birthday one day away, 24 hours remain until it.

How is age in hours calculated from a date?
The calculator counts the whole calendar days between your date of birth and the reference date, then multiplies by 24. Because the inputs are dates rather than exact clock times, each day contributes exactly 24 hours. If you know your precise time of birth and need hour-level accuracy for a single day, add or subtract the hours since midnight yourself.
Why 24 hours per day exactly — do leap seconds or daylight saving matter?
A calendar day is defined as 24 hours (86,400 seconds), and the count is done on whole dates in UTC, so daylight-saving clock changes — which shift wall-clock time but not the date — cannot add or remove an hour. Leap seconds are occasional one-second adjustments to atomic time and are not part of civil date arithmetic, so they are not counted here.
Are leap years included in the hour count?
Yes, automatically. The underlying day count is a true calendar difference, so every 29 February between the two dates adds a full 24 hours. The Gregorian century rule is applied in full: years divisible by 4 are leap years, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400 — so 2000 counts an extra day but 1900 does not.
Why is my age in hours not just my age in years times 8,760?
Because 8,760 hours is 365 days, and the average Gregorian year is 365.2425 days. Multiplying your years by 8,760 ignores every leap day you have lived through — for someone in their thirties that undercounts by roughly 200 hours. This calculator counts real calendar days first, so the total is exact.
Can I set a future reference date?
Yes. Set the reference date to any future day and the calculator reports the age in hours reached on that date. The reference date must be on or after the date of birth — reversing them returns an error rather than a negative count.
How many hours are there in a typical human lifespan?
Using a global average life expectancy of about 73 years, a lifetime works out to roughly 640,000 hours (73 × 365.2425 × 24). Reaching 100 years old means passing about 876,600 hours. Milestone hours such as your 100,000th (around age 11½) or 500,000th (around age 57) can be planned by setting the reference date forward until the total lands where you want it.
